Prompt: Did your secondary (high) school experience prepare you adequately for college?
I questioned myself this: did secondary school actually prepare me for college? I always pondered about this one question. Asking this mystery question leads to more mystery questions, and these mysterious questions will be left unanswered. Sometimes, when I asked myself a mystery question, I sometimes cannot answer it. In my mind, I feel like I should be ready for college based on how secondary school prepared me. Comparing between secondary school and college, the experiences are completely different. It feels like the experience I learned in secondary school does not really compete at college level. My secondary school did not prepare me for what is expected in college, because secondary school did not teach me how to deal with tough situations, how to use the techniques properly, and how to prepare successfully for classroom expectations.
Hitting a brick wall means there is a tough situation that must be dealt with. These situations can vary from a literal pain to a piece of cake. Some situations can include on: how to pronounce a word, how to not fail a test, how to successfully pass the class, and so on. Secondary school did not teach anything to deal with these situations. When there is a wall, the subject will be hard and not understandable. Problems like this really screw up the education system if all schools were like this. All of this is not just about situations, but techniques can be played as a role.
Techniques were not use efficiently due to the poor secondary school teachings. Some techniques were taught but more with a vague idea on how to use it. For example: a teacher employs a technique that the class should use, but was poorly taught. Teachers in secondary school are always trying to teach certain techniques to use, but they almost always fail. Techniques aren’t only what are used for, but it can show what the classroom expectations are.
Classroom expectations were not fully prepared well enough for what is coming. In secondary school, classrooms had the same exact feeling. This feeling is like a classroom should be the same throughout all secondary school and in college. But really, the expectations for each classroom are completely different. Some teachers expect that students should know a lot of information before the start of class, and some teachers just completely do not care if they know the information or not. If the teachers do not care that students should know information before the start of class, then this shows that students are not being prepared for classroom expectations for college.
If only my secondary school prepares me adequately for college, then the statement would be a positive. Other than that, my secondary school lacks the knowledge in how to achieve successfully. The tough situations, the techniques, and classroom expectations: all of these are related in a way. In my personal opinion, life is all about challenge, and when challenge is presented, new experiences can be earned. There is nothing in life that is considered impossible.
